As digital accessibility requirements continue to evolve, Mississippi State University is committed to helping faculty and staff create course content that is accessible to all learners. To support these efforts, ITS is pleased to introduce Pope Tech, a new accessibility tool integrated with Canvas that helps identify and resolve common accessibility issues in course content. Pope Tech is designed to make accessibility easier by providing real-time guidance while you build and edit content in Canvas. The tool scans pages, assignments, discussions, announcements, and other course materials, then highlights issues such as missing alternative text, low color contrast, improper heading structure, and unclear link text. It also provides step-by-step recommendations to help instructors quickly correct issues and learn accessibility best practices along the way.
In addition to its in-page Accessibility Guide, Pope Tech includes dashboards that allow instructors to view accessibility scores, identify areas for improvement, and track progress across their courses. These features support the university's ongoing efforts to meet digital accessibility requirements while creating a more inclusive learning experience for all students.
