Enrolling in Administrative Banner Training Canvas Courses (TMARS)

To provide all potential and current Administrative Banner users with the proper training needed to efficiently utilize the processes in Banner, ITS offers training classes via the online self-enrollment CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: All instructor-led training (in-person) Banner classes have been discontinued as of December 2024. When working through a Canvas course, disregard any mention of attending or completing an ILT (in-person) Banner class.

The CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course is a collection of six self-paced courses each containing a series of instruction videos and documents. The six self-paced courses are:

  1. Navigation and Financial Query
  2. Payroll Time Entry
  3. Leave Entry w/eForms
  4. Requisitions*
  5. Invoice Processing (regular and direct pay invoices)*
  6. Direct Pay Processing*

This self-enroll master course is an external course and is only available online via Canvas. Any MSU administrator or staff can self-enroll to complete one or multiple self-paced courses online. After a course is completed, a completion record will be saved in your training history.

*The Administrative Banner training classes for Requisitions and Invoice Processing (regular and direct pay invoices) will be available a​​​​​​s we transition to the new Bully Buy e-procurement system for keying documents and orders. Once the new Bully Buy system is fully implemented in January 2025, these processes will no longer be performed in Production Banner. Please note that direct pay invoices for vendors will be processed in the Bully Buy e-procurement system and direct pay invoices for MSU employees and students will still be keyed in Production Banner, not the new Bully Buy e-procurement system. Please visit the Office of Procurement & Contracts Bully Buy page for more information at https://www.procurement.msstate.edu/procurement/bully-buy/index.php

Administrative Banner Account and/or Access

Is Administrative Banner training required to set up an Administrative Banner Production account and/or request access?
No, training is no longer required but highly recommended.

Logging into TMaRS

MSU has a powerful, go-to platform for training across campus called TMaRS which stands for Training Management and Records System (TMaRS). TMaRS puts users in control of their learning journey giving them a focused portal to access their own personal training hub to browse courses, enroll, and watch their progress grow.

There are two ways to get started with TMaRS:

1. Log into my.msstate.edu. In the My Resources section, locate the Training card and click the Training Management and Records Systems link.

2.  Type the URL tmars.msstate.edu in your browser's address bar and press Enter. 

 

Enrolling in the CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course

After successfully accessing TMaRS, follow these steps to self-enroll in the CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course:

1. Click the Self-Enroll Course Listings button in the page header. 

2. Filter for the course by typing Banner in the Filter Courses field and pressing Enter.

    

You can also scroll down the page to locate the CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course card.

 

3. Click the Class Information button to view the course description and access the Enroll in the course button.

4. Click Enroll in the Course to self-enroll in the CANVAS Self-Enroll Administrative Banner Training Master Course.

   

5. After you enroll in the course, the course card will display Enrolled and the link to Take Course.

Click the link, Take Course, to access the course in Canvas.

6. Congratulations, you should now be logged into Canvas with access to begin taking the course.
