Turnitin Similarity Information & Resources

Information and resources regarding Turnitin Similarity, the University's anti-plagiarism tool. The transition from Ouriginal to Turnitin Similarity will begin with both being available in the Summer 2022 term (including Maymester) then ending with Turnitin Similarity being the only option for the Fall 2022 term. Ouriginal will not be available for the Fall 2022 term, however, Ouriginal reports will be available to faculty through the end of 2022.

What is Turnitin Similarity?

Turnitin Similarity helps safeguard institutional reputation and intellectual property by protecting against copy/paste plagiarism, student collusion, and research misconduct through a scalable workflow integrated with MSU's LMS (Canvas). Turnitin promises to provide a clean, intuitive, and thorough, similarity report, with a database containing 1.8 billion student submissions, current and historical Internet sources, and works from over 2,000 publishers to match against as well as a flags panel for highlighting active attempts at misconduct.
