MATLAB VPN Requirement
To use MATLAB off-campus, users must connect to the MSU VPN in order to communicate with the license server. Refer to the following articles for instructions for connecting to the VPN on your device.
Administrator Privileges Requirement
Administrator access is needed to install this software. If you're installing MATLAB on an MSU-inventoried computer and do not currently have administrator access, please contact your Desktop Support technician and have them install this software for you. If you do have local administrator access, follow the instructions on using Admin By Request to complete the install with elevated privileges.

 

Downloading MATLAB R2026a

Download links are available on the MATLAB service page. Users will be given the option to either download the software or reserve media for pickup at the Service Desk in 108 Allen Hall.

 

Installing MATLAB R2026a

  1. Follow the instructions based on your media type:
  • If using the MATLAB USB drive: Insert the MATLAB USB drive, go to the MATLAB R2026a for macOS folder, then open (double-click) the matlab_R2026a_macOSAppleSilicon.dmg file.
  • If using the download: Open (double-click) the downloaded .dmg file.
  1. Run the InstallForMacOSAppleSilicon.app file. Please note: The installer window might take a minute or two to pop up. If prompted, enter your computer account password. 

If you receive an error message stating "Apple could not verify "InstallForMacOSAppleSilicon" (or "InstallForMacOSIntel") is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy", you will need to perform the following steps:

  • Click the Apple logo in the top left, then click System Settings
  • Click Privacy and Security
  • Scroll down to the Security section, then click Open Anyway next to "InstallForMacOSSilicon was blocked to protect your Mac."
  1.  In the MATLAB Installer window, select the Advanced Options dropdown in the top right, then select I have a File installation Key.



 

  1. In the license agreement window, select Yes to accept the terms of the license agreement, then click Next.

  1. Enter the file installation key located in the file_installation_key.txt file in the MATLAB_R2026a_macOS.dmg folder, or on the MATLAB USB drive, then click Next.

 

Note: Double-click the file to open it in TextEdit, then copy the key from there. You can browse the contents of the .dmg file opened in step 1 by selecting MATLAB_R2024b_macOS under the Locations section in the Finder window sidebar if the window is no longer open. 

  1. In the licensing window, click Browse, navigate to and select the license.lic file in the MATLAB_R2026a_macOS.dmg folder, or on the MATLAB USB drive, then click Next.



 

  1. Leave the default installation folder location or change it, if needed, then click Next. If prompted, enter your computer account password. 


  1. Leave the default product selections or change them, as needed, then click Next.



 

  1. Choose your desired option for optionally sending user experience data to MathWorks, then click Next.


  1. Click Begin Install


 

 

  1. Install additional components (compiler, Java JDK, etc.), if prompted. 



     
  2. If prompted for a Java Runtime, click on Install Java Runtime which will take you to a download for Amazon Corretto 11 InstallerClick Continue



     
  3. Click Install.

  1. In the Installation Complete window, review the page for any additional software you may need, then click Close.
