FileSender is a secure storage system for sharing encrypted files and data quickly and securely. FileSender allows Mississippi State University students, faculty and staff to share files and data with other MSU students, faculty and staff, as well as anyone external to MSU. There is a 4 gigabyte quota for users, with a 20 day expiration limit on files and data. Because of enhanced security features, the files shared in FileSender are only accessible to the intended recipient(s) In addition, users can request a file or data upload by sending a “Voucher” message to specified users. The “Voucher” message can be sent to anyone, whether they are within the MSU community or not.

Best Practices for FileSender Passwords
- Go to https://filesender.msstate.edu/, log in with your NetID and NetPassword, then authenticate with Duo 2FA if prompted.

- After logging into FileSender, you can upload files and data securely, delete existing files, request file uploads from other users (both MSU users and non-MSU users), and view your storage quota and file sharing history.
- To upload a file, navigate to the Upload tab. Click Select Files or use the Drag and Drop feature to drag files from your device into the designated box.

- Enter the email address(es) of the recipient(s) of the file(s) in the appropriate text box. Add an optional subject line and message to send to the recipient(s) along with the file(s). (Note: FileSender can be used to send files to non-MSU email addresses.)

- Create a 16 character Password for the recipient(s) to use to access the file(s). If you prefer, you can select Generate Password and FileSender will create a secure password for you. Do not include the Password in the message box. Doing so negates the purpose of using FileSender for secure, encrypted transfers.

- Document the Password in a secure location. FileSender does NOT store Passwords. See Best Practices for FileSender Passwords for additional information about Password creation and recommended methods for sharing Passwords with the Recipients.
- FileSender will automatically generate an Expiry Date. If needed, edit the Expiry Date. Beneath the Expiry Date, you will also see Advanced Settings which can be enabled/disabled to meet your personal preferences for notification and delivery settings.

- Click Send to deliver the file(s) to the designated recipient(s).

- A pop-up notification will alert you when the file(s) are delivered successfully. Click Close.

- Once the file(s) are transferred, the recipient(s) will receive an email notifying them that file(s) have been uploaded. The email includes the Expiry Date and a URL that directs them to FileSender to download the shared file(s).
- To view files you shared, navigate to the My Transfers tab.

- Choose between Current and Closed file transfers by clicking the appropriate tab. Then, select the + icon next to the file listing to see additional transfer details and features.

- To view additional information about the file transfer process, click See the Transfer Logs.

- To add another recipient to a file you recently transferred, click the envelope icon in the Actions column. To delete a file prior to the Expire Date, click the trash can icon in the Actions column.

FileSender allows you to send vouchers to other people (MSU users and external users). A voucher allows another user to send you files securely within FileSender.
- To request file transfers from another user, navigate to the Guests tab. Here, you can create and send a Voucher to designated recipient(s) notifying them of your request for secure file delivery.

- To create a Voucher, enter the email address(es) of your intended recipient(s). Add an optional subject line and message.

- Click Send Voucher. An email will be sent to the recipient(s) with a link to use the Voucher.

- A pop-up notification will alert you when the Voucher has been successfully delivered.

- Check your inbox for email notifications from MSU-FileSender alerting you that files are available to download. Click the Download Link to access FileSender and view the file transfer.
- Click Download.

- The sender of the file(s) should share the secure Password they made when sending the file(s). If you do not have the secure Password, you will not be able to download the file(s).
- In the pop-up window, enter the Password. Then, click OK.

- A Download Complete notification will alert you when the file(s) finish downloading to your device.
