Body
Mississippi State University ITS provides multiple file storage solutions for departments and individuals. These file storage options include local servers and cloud-hosted options. Each storage option has advantages and disadvantages that should be carefully considered based on the use scenario.
The ITS-supported data storage options include Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and local file servers (J: Drive).
While each of these data storage options provide secure environments for sensitive data, you have the responsibility to ensure that your data is shared with the appropriate individuals.

The J: Drive is file storage space provided to ITS-supported departments hosted on local servers. The data is mirrored between two on-campus data centers for redundancy and backed up daily for disaster recovery. For clients with additional storage needs, ITS offers additional space for a yearly fee in 1 TB increments.
While you can’t directly connect to the file servers from off-campus to access data on the J: Drive, you can access files via a web browser at was.msstate.edu. See https://servicedesk.its.msstate.edu/TDClient/45/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=1427 for additional information.
FileSender (filesender.msstate.edu) is Mississippi State University’s solution for sending large files to MSU or non-MSU users. FileSender allows secure authentication for Mississippi State University users, while also allowing users without MSU email addresses to access files that have been shared with them via an emailed link. Files are removed from FileSender after 20 days (unless an earlier Expiry Date is specified). FileSender is not backed up, does not allow file versioning, and does not allow simultaneous file editing. It is not intended for long-term storage.
